Structure

Gazebos are structures for public gathering, often located inside a Park and may feature a seating area and/or BBQ.

Criteria

Gazebos are categorised into the social criteria. Gazebos are spaces that allow:

  • people to gather
  • host private or community events
  • socialise with others

As gazebos are great locations for a number of activities, they represent the enjoyment of that space and are ideal candidates for nominations.

  • Bandstand
  • Pavilion
  • Pergola
  • Rotunda

AMA Guidance

During the transition of OPR to Wayfarer, the Candidate Action Guide was removed from the Acceptance Criteria section. Does this mean that the guide no longer applies and that reviewers should use their best judgement, such as with city/subdivision/development signs, gazebos, water towers, individual holes on a golf course, etc?
Do structures that meet the same usage as Gazebos such as pergolas, pavillions, ramadas, arbors, etc fit acceptance criteria? There's a lot of debate about this on the forums
If it's in a park and has pedestrian access, yes. If they are in the backyard of your private residence, no.
Would we be able to get a pavilion selection, or is selecting gazebo for things like park pavilions just as good?
For now, selecting Gazebo should be OK. But NIA OPS did tell me that they are definitely monitoring the feedback for new categories to add to the list.
What are your thoughts on reopening a submission appeals community with the caveat that rejected submissions entered there must fall under the NIA Ops recommended 5 star rating list (gazebo, playground, etc.)? It is getting very frustrating to have the OPR reviewers fail to follow the recommendations and use their personal opinions on what a portal shouldn't be.
Thanks for this question. I has spawned a discussion internally and we are working on a plan to do something.
